I think that what Dave Letterman said on his show about Sarah Palin’s daughter was despicable. Not for a minute do I believe he was delivering his jokes based on the older daughter. He was just looking for a way to hurt the Governor and that is wrong. Sarah Palin seems like an honest and good person to me. I bet she would never say anything bad about anyone else’s kids. She doesn’t deserve to be a victim of such low and stupid humor. I am all for free speech but Letterman went way over the line of good taste.

Sarah Palin’s response to the joke was certainly very well formed and was a lot classier than the things I ever would have said. I think it shows her character that she eventually forgave Letterman and shows she is a much bigger person than most. It has to be hard living in the public eye like that and the fact she so publicly let him off the hook shows true grit. I know I wouldn’t have. I think Palin was trying as she always does to set an example of good taste and what it means to be a forgiving human being.

Sarah Palin must still be hurting from such disgusting things said about her youngest daughter yet she has shown the country that she is reasonable and is willing to go on with her life. No doubt she must have had a difficult time explaining to her daughter what was going on and why Letterman said those horrendous things. I hope I never have to have that talk with my daughter. But, I would hope that if I ever do I can take Palin’s example to heart. It is hard enough to be a good mother in regular society without having to deal with it in the spotlight of the international media.

I hope Letterman really does she the error of his ways. I think his apology was disingenuous and was done only to keep from being fired or losing sponsors. But whatever his motivation Sarah Palin took him at his word and forgave him and that takes class and integrity to do. I hope she doesn’t give him the satisfaction of going on his show as that would only fuel the fire and I know she has more dignity than that. Letterman could learn something from Sarah Palin.
