Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy – More Similar Than You Think

January 26th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy have both received a great deal of media attention in 2008. Sarah was introduced to the media last August as John McCain’s Vice Presidential running mate. Caroline Kennedy has been in the media since her father ran for President in 1960, but most recently, the attention was focused on her interest in filling Senator Hilary Clinton’s New York Senate seat. The media seemed to portray Sarah Palin as the blue collar, down to earth, hockey mom from Alaska who spoke with a folksy accent. Caroline Kennedy has always been portrayed as a white collar, high class, attorney and author from the Upper East Side. While both of these portrayals are accurate, these two women have a lot more in common than what meets the eye.

After graduating from college, both Sarah and Caroline began their careers in the media. Sarah became a sports reporter for two local television stations in Alaska. Caroline worked in the television and film office of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Sarah moved on to a position with the Wasilla City Council and Caroline became President of the Kennedy Library Foundation. Both women have been happily married for over 20 years. Caroline’s oldest daughter, Rose Kennedy Schlossberg, is 20 years old and a college student. Sarah’s oldest son, Track, is 19 years old and serving in the US Army. Both women are devoted wives and mothers and are very protective of their children and work hard to shield them from the media spotlight.

Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy have served the public for most of their careers. After serving on the Wasilla City Council for three years, Sarah was elected Mayor of Wasilla and served two terms. In 2006, she was elected Governor of Alaska. Caroline worked for four years at the New York City Department of Education as the Director of the Office of Strategic Partnerships. She currently serves on the boards for the Commission on Presidential Debates and NAACP Education Fund.

Although they represent different political parties, both Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy are strong supporters and are committed to representing the beliefs of their parties. Palin continues to support the policies in Iraq and is a National Rifle Association member. Kennedy continues to support legislation granting same sex marriages and the pro-choice movement. Both women have the courage to stand by their beliefs even if it makes them unpopular with the general public. Even though Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy come very diverse backgrounds and were raised in two different societies, they have both become very successful political and public figures and wonderful wives and mothers.

Palin is vying for the presidency and Kennedy wanted a freshman position, but yes, similarities.
I wish Palin would take the same bus home and out of the public eye.
