Two factors have made the 2008 presidential election one for the history books. Whether it is Sarah Palin as Vice President or Barack Obama as President, it will be an historical moment. Never before has the role of president been filled by an African American. Nor has a woman filled the role of vice president. Either situation will be a first in the history of the United States. Opponents claim that John McCain pulled Sarah Palin out of the woodworks in order to balance the historical value of a win. Does Sarah Palin have the qualifications to be Vice President?
A self-proclaimed soccer mom, many people were surprised when John McCain picked Sarah Palin as Vice President should he be elected. Practically an unknown to the Washington elite, this nomination was something they just could not understand. But, does every candidate for office in the US have to be a part of the Washington elite? Wouldn’t it be better to have a candidate that is in touch with the American people? How about a soccer mom? There are millions of hockey moms all over the United States. Hockey Moms, Soccer moms, and dads, are a special breed of people. They epitomize the idea of ‘dedicated’. These are the people who get out of bed at 4 a.m. on a Saturday morning to drive miles and miles to get their children to the game on time. These are staunch supporters of the team – even if the team is not winning. These are the people who stand in the yard and practice with their children for hours on end. Dedication – plain and simple.
Dedication is something that the American people need in a politician – someone who is dedicated to doing what helps the people of this country rather than doing what lines their pockets. Sarah Palin as Vice President would bring this sort of dedication to the playing field. Not being a member of the Washington elite can be a positive thing. Sarah Palin is a candidate that average Americans can relate to. She has children who make mistakes and have problems; she and her husband are hard workers who understand the importance of the family unit. She understands the problems facing the working class as they juggle work and home life in an attempt to provide the best opportunities for their children.
But, what about Sarah Palin as Vice President? Is she qualified? In the political arena, she has experience. She started out as a member of the PTA, worked her way up to city councilwoman, then mayor, and now is the governor of Alaska. In the last two roles, she was the one with total responsibility for the job. While her experience hasn’t been within the hub of the Washington elite, she has experience nonetheless.

All she has to do to get the elitists off her case is to lose the “gosh-darn” language! She is really much more in touch than she is given credit for!

Sarah Palin is our only hope to save America. A very heavy responsibility has landed on her shoulders. We have very little time to defeat Barak, who sees nothing wrong in badmouthing our troops and commiserating with terrorists. This theme needs to be hammered away at between now and election if we are to save our republic. She said it perfectly when she said Barak Obama is unfit to be called commander in chief. Sarah Palin is another Margaret Thatcher, and I know she can do it. She is destined to be a future president, no doubt about it.
