The Sarah Palin bikini photo floating around the Internet is one of the most exciting developments in the 2008 Presidential Election between John McCain and Barak Obama.  The bikini image shows what appears to be the Republican VP candidate wearing a two-piece bikini  sporting the stars and strips of the USA flag holding a hunting rifle.  The grin on Palin’s face in the photo is simply priceless!

Although Sarah Palin is NOT really the woman holding the gun and sporting the patriotic bikini, the Photoshop job on the image is quite professional and has fooled millions of searchers and media companies in the days and weeks following Sarah Palin’s appointment.

So why has a bikini picture attracted so much attention?  To put it clearly, John McCain’s appointment of Palin as his running mate was something of a surprise to Republicans and Democrats alike who probably did not predict a conservative candidate selecting a female running mate.  Things have really changed in the political sphere after Hilary Clinton’s very strong run as the Democratic contender.  The McCain campaign team obviously thought long and hard about their Vice Presidential selection before making it official.

The bikini photo of Sarah Palin is just one example of how powerful the Internet has become in disseminating information during a political campaign.  After the image became VERY public, John McCain announced a formal launch of a counter-campaign to defend Sarah Palin and to protect her name.  The “Truth Crew” McCain appointed has been charged with the rather important job of defending false accusations and preventing future similar outbreaks against the co-candidate.

Palin’s bikini shot is also a play on the Alaskan Governor’s political and group affiliations.  Known for her very conservative political outlook, Palin has actually been described as “more Republican” than John McCain.  This could be a great strength for the McCain ticket as some conservatives have questioned the candidates Republican platform.  Sarah Palin may add that extra something to satisfy more aggressive Republican voters.  Still, her feminine presence could also appeal to female conservatives who may not easily relate to John McCain.

One thing is for sure – the selection of Sarah Palin to run at McCain’s side is definitely designed to capture Hilary Clinton voters now referred to as the “female voter demographic” where Palin could have strong pull.

Now that the Palin bikini picture has been defined clearly as a fake, a forgery, and a complete scam, Sarah Palin can begin focusing on the campaign and keeping her reputation intact.  In many ways, this confident politician has become quite the celebrity overnight.  If the McCain campaign has anything to fear, it’s that Sarah Palin may be more appealing than the guy who’s actually running for president.
