Sarah Palin’s polar bears are doing quite all right indeed! In the following video, Governor Palin addresses the so-called endangered species declaration directed at the polar bears of Alaska and nearby regions.
As the debate goes, the polar bears in Palin’s territory are under threat of endangerment from global warming – a future warning that the state’s executive officer sees as somewhat overbearing.
Part of the problem with this situation is if global warming is threatening the polar bear population in Alaska, then any global-warming related activity anywhere in the world could impact the bears in Alaska! Pretty far-fetched, eh?
The Endangered Species Act is the major piece of legislation at work in this Sarah Palin polar bear debacle, and it’s not altogether clear what the outcome will be just yet. Many political pundits, including the well known George Will, have weighed in on this issue. Will actually commented that such legislative power would effectively give the federal government the ability to direct all economic decisions that could be in any way tied toward global warming. Yes, this is a bit of a problem for both environmentalists and political officials alike. The Glenn Beck interview gives some good informayion on this subject.
While it is clear that something needs to be done to help protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions, it is not clear where the lines will be drawn in these types of debates. Sarah Palin and the polar bears will just have to wait until everything can be figured out by the feds. Until then, we’ll just keep our fingers crossed and hope that Global Warming does not affect our environment.
