Sarah Palin is a Maverick despite what anyone says! You know, all of these attacks at our future VP are just completely unfounded and mostly personal in nature.  So today, I wanted to add a post about Ms. Palin that would set the record straight one last time.  Let’s talk about something important here – let’s talk about exactly who Sarah Palin is and why she is a Maverick indeed.

First, what is a Maverick?  Well, I thought you’d never ask!

The standard definition for a person we think of as a Maverick is an independent type.  According to Wikipedia (which we all know is basically the supreme source for knowledge on the web), a Maverick is defined as “a lone dissenter; a non-conformist or rebel.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking – Sarah Palin is NOT a rebel.  Well, let’s review the case here folks.

What is it that makes Sarah so interesting anyway?  I’m going to put my money on her gender first.  Of course, a female governor is not anything new.  There are plenty of other female governors throughout the United States.  But a female Vice President?  Now that’s really rocking the boat.

Plus, I’m willing to bet that part of what gets so many people excited about Sarah Palin is her good looks.  Let’s face it, she’s attractive – even if Newsweek magazine did a pretty crummy job with her recent cover shot.  Since most politicians are unattractive and exceedingly boring to look at and/or listen to, Palin definitely rocks this boat.

Many people will simply say that Sarah Palin inherited her “Maverick status” from her more important running mate, John McCain.  While I do concede that this is partly true, it’s important to point out that the McCain campaign team chose Sarah Palin precisely because of their desire to create even more of a “Mavericky” image.

Granted, Sarah Palin has made a few faux pas here and there in her own use of the term “Maverick” but that’s to be expected.  Imagine if you were suddenly dropped into the national (dare I say international) spotlight virtually overnight.  You would probably flounder a bit too.

Is Sarah Palin a non-conformist?  Take a look at the photographs of the last 43 presidents and vice presidents from years gone by.  Look anything like Palin?  Didn’t think so.

Is Sarah Palin a lone dissenter?  If you consult the Palin-McCain ticket and political stand, you will find the answer is an unequivocal yes!
